So, you think you're a Weird Al fan, eh? Well, you didn't think it was as easy as just downloading an MP3 every so often and taping UHF off cable, did you?

Weird Al fans are definitely unique from fans of other recording artists, style of music aside. They're always looking for ways to celebrate their hero and help introduce others to his work, so when a project, campaign, or initiative comes along for whatever reason, Al fans will rally together to do whatever is necessary.

In 2002 fans successfully coerced MGM into releasing Al's 1989 cult classic UHF on DVD, in early 2006 it was announced that Shout! Factory would release all thirteen episodes of The Weird Al Show on DVD, and in June 2006 fans were able to raise $15,000 to sponsor a hopeful star for Al on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Three much-desired goals realized, so far.

But with all the different things fans can write for or request, where exactly does one start? Well, for the benefit of the Al fan on the go, look no further for all your grassroots needs. Below you'll find info about specific causes, links to the official sites (where applicable), descriptions of what you can do to help, and even priority statuses so you know exactly what to do first. It's your one-stop Al campaign resource center!

So do a little reading below and help out however you can. Remember, it's all for Al!

How
Send a personal letter to Lennard Promotions to ask them to look into bringing Al back for a new tour. Go into the success Al had in Australia on the 2003 tour and his general overall popularity in the country ("Eat It" went #1 there, you know!). If you went to one of the Australian shows last time, explain how much you enjoyed it and how much you can't wait to see Al return. And on special request from the fan who put this information together, mewrio, please do not make any mention of there being a "fan effort." Hey, are they ever going to reissue...?

Have you been wondering what's keeping some of Al's projects from coming back into print? So have we. We have tried to track down the correct information for whichever company currently owns the distribution rights to a given project, so simply help convince them to rerelease Al's work by writing to the corresponding addresses.

As always, be polite and supportive in your messages.

PETER AND THE WOLF

Sony Music also has a handy-dandy feedback form to make such pleas. Be sure to select "Sony Masterworks" from the subject menu!

THE COMPLEAT AL
priority: Medium

What
Al's 1985 mockumentary supposedly chronicling his life and career. Includes interviews with Al's parents, Phil Ramone, Dick Clark, and Rick Derringer, not to mention all of Al's music videos through 1985 and clips from the earliest Al-TV specials.

The VHS release is long out of print, and The Compleat Al has never surfaced on DVD.

SAFETY PATROL
priority: Medium

What
The 1998 made-for-ABC Disney comedy starring Bug Hall, Leslie Nielsen, and the usual stable of Savage Steve Holland actors. Al and the band play a key role in the climax of the movie, performing both "Gump" and a brand new song, "The Ballad Of Kent Marlow," against the backdrop of a giant Weird Al balloon!

BABALU MUSIC!
SUCCESS!!!

What
Al's 1991 video compilation to coincide with the album of the same name. Collecting classic comedy and musical bits from I Love Lucy, the video also contains the music video for Al's "Babalu Music" medley, which was recorded exclusively for this production.

Although the VHS release of Babalu Music! was reissued on June 3, 2003, it had yet to show up on DVD.

A DVD was finally issued in 2011 as a bonus to Time Life's various I Love Lucy releases, such as The Essential I Love Lucy Collection.
