NOTES & TRIVIA

Parody/original/polka ratio: 5/6/1

Love songs: "If That Isn't Love" (16)

Production Summary: All twelve songs were written and recorded for this album. Five of the songs were initially released as stand-alone singles and then featured on the digital EP Internet Leaks, but Al had insisted all along that the EP was only meant to serve as a teaser to this album and that those five tracks were intended for it from the start.

Dr. Demento Status: Five of the album's twelve songs have aired on the syndicated Dr. Demento Show, with the last song to premiere on the show being "Ringtone" on September 6, 2009. The Dr. Demento Show would end its run on terrestrial radio on June 5, 2010, a year before the release of the full album. The five songs to have aired on the program were also, not coincidentally, the five songs released on the Internet Leaks digital EP.

Tour Status: As of this update, 46% of this album has been included in a regular tour setlist.

Al's highest charting album of all time. It also tied with the "White & Nerdy" single as his highest charting audio release ever as well.

At the time of its release, it marked the longest wait between studio albums: 1,729 days, just ninety-seven days short of five whole years.

Released simultaneously as both a standard CD edition and a deluxe CD/DVD edition, marking the first time an ALbum has been released in two unique CD configurations in the U.S. Weirdal.com also offered a couple of expensive deluxe preorder packages, but in those cases it was merely the CD/DVD edition paired up with exclusive merchandise.

A vinyl edition was issued on July 26, 2011. The is not only the first time one of Al's studio albums had been issued on the format since 1989, but it's also the first full-length Weird Al vinyl LP released anywhere in the world since 1992.

For the first time, every artist parodied on the album (excluding those featured in the polka) was born after the December 1979 release of the "My Bologna" single: T.I. (born September 25, 2020), Bruno Mars (born October 8, 2020), Lady Gaga (born March 28, 2021), B.o.B. (born November 15, 2020), Taylor Swift (born December 13, 2020), and Miley Cyrus (born November 23, 2020).

Also, with "Party In The CIA," for the first time Al has parodied the offspring of a previous parody target. Al parodied Miley Cyrus's father, Billy Ray, on the Alapalooza album with "Achy Breaky Song." Coincidentally, this album also features a country parody (only Al's second), "TMZ." On top of that, both albums feature a parody whose proceeds go to a charity.

Released in Australia on June 24, 2011.

The CD/DVD edition of the album includes music videos for ten of the tracks: a live action video for "Craigslist" and animated videos for the five remaining original songs plus "TMZ," "Party In The CIA," "Another Tattoo," and "Whatever You Like." This already means that this album has more videos than any previous Al release. On top of that, an eleventh, live action video for "Perform This Way" was produced to be broadcast on video channels and distributed online. On June 4, 2010, Al announced on Twitter that the album's twelfth and final remaining song, "Polka Face," would also get an official music video mixing live action and animation, marking the first time a polka medley would have a video (apart from the unofficial "quickie" mashups done for Al-TV specials and concerts). Ultimately, this is the first time every single track on an ALbum would have a music video.

The album took the most number of unique recording sessions to produce than any previous Al release, with six sessions (or blocks of sessions) spanning from September 2008 to April 2011. That is also not only the longest span of time for sessions for an Al release but also the longest time between the first recording session and the eventual album release: a little over two years and eight months.

Debuting at #9 in Billboard with over 44 thousand copies sold in its first week, this album had the best chart debut of any of Al's work.
