Al's first EP release on a label, and only his second EP total following his self-funded "Another One Rides The Bus" 45 from 1981.
Al's first digital-only release, not counting singles or individual tracks off albums.
This EP served two purposes. One was to treat fans to a sneak preview of Al's then-in-production thirteenth album (Alpocalypse), as Al recognized that the wait between albums had grown longer in recent years due to a variety of factors. The other purpose was to see how successfully Al could write, record, and release songs individually without having to wait for an entire album to be completed.
The EP's lone parody, "Whatever You Like," had been released the previous October, long before Al announced his strategy for Internet Leaks. "Whatever" originally served as a stand-alone single without any ties to an album or any other project. When it was finally announced in early 2009 that Al would release four digital original singles over the course of the summer and then the five-track Internet Leaks digital EP, "Whatever You Like" retroactively became the "first" single off that project.
For whatever reason, Amazon neglected to offer either this EP for download on its release date, despite being available on every other major MP3 online store. It was finally uploaded and available on the site three days later.
The EP would not make Billboard's main "Billboard 200" chart, but on September 12, 2020 it would debut at #8 with a bullet on the "Comedy Albums" chart. It would be the release's only appearance on the publicly posted version of the chart. (it would last another week on Billboard.com's members-only version of the chart that includes additional positions).
This EP would surprisingly earn Al a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album. At time of the nomination, it was extremely rare for a digital-only release to get any kind of Grammy recognition. Sadly, Al would lose to Stephen Colbert for his A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All! soundtrack.
