"Weird Al used music videos brilliantly. His parodies of both Michael Jackson and Madonna were even more memorable than the original videos themselves."

Make the Rock Hall Weird Update Blog

Entry for March 4, 2021

Well, here we are less than two weeks away from both the 2007 Rock Hall induction ceremony and Al's worldwide Straight Outta Lynwood Tour, so how about we cover some news on both?

It has recently been announced that VH1 Classic will air the whole induction ceremony live on March 12. This will be the first time the ceremony has been aired either live or in its entirety, so if you want to see the members of Van Halen past and present just give each other dirty looks, be sure to tune in.

As for Al's tour, unfortunately it looks as if the hoped-for European leg will not be happening anytime soon, as Al needed to receive a few more offers around the continent in order to make such an endeavor financially feasible. So, until some better news comes out, we would still love to have fans throughout Europe helping out with the petition, even if they're just passing it around to friends and family.

Meanwhile, Al's tour will be beginning in New Zealand and Australia this week, and we'll have petition volunteers at a number of shows on the tour down under. Also, this week Make the Rock Hall "Weird" will be featured as the "Website of the Week" on 80s Lunchbox, heard Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at noon (NZDT) on 88.4 FM The Cheese in Wellington, New Zealand. We are humbled by the honor and hope it gets more friends in the area interested in the campaign.

Speaking of friends of both Al and the campaign, if you have HBO Comedy on your cable or satellite system, Patton Oswalt's hilarious Comedy Half-Hour special from around the time of his Weird Al Show appearance will be airing throughout the month. Here are the known airtimes on the network (all EST):

March 6, 6:25PM

March 11, 1:30PM

March 22, 11:30AM

March 24, 6:55PM

March 28, 2:05AM and 3:05PM

Finally, there have been a few changes to our petition tour schedule, including the addition of a number of high-profile shows. This means our new tour shirts will be updated with the new schedule, so if you're a collector or Al completist be sure to order the shirt now before it changes. Remember that proceeds from the tour shirts go to the Weird Al Star Fund. And of course, if you haven't ventured over to them, remember you can order other Make the Rock Hall "Weird" campaign gear at our previous shops (click here and here).

We still need more petition volunteers around the world, so be sure to check out the current tour schedule and sign up!
