Make the Rock Hall Weird Update Blog
This is just a reminder to those going to the Al concert in Columbus Sunday night at the Lifestyle Communities Pavilion that Greg will be there videotaping fan interviews for our Rock Hall video documentary.
Assuming the venue isn't lying and that the doors do in fact open at 7:00, Greg will arrive by 6:00 at one of the nearby public parking lots at that intersection, and it will be pretty hard to miss him.
If anyone is planning on going and would definitely like to appear on camera to answer a few questions and make a personal plea to the Rock Hall Foundation, if you'd like you can e-mail us through the web site or message us through MySpace and request a specific time to be interviewed. If not, just look for Greg when you arrive (but do note that if not enough people are participating, he might just pack everything up early).
And don't worry, we will NOT tape anyone who does not want to appear on camera (you'd have to sign a release anyway in order to be interviewed), so even if you just want to come by and say hi or maybe help pass out a couple of fliers with the Rock Hall address on it, that would be cool, too.
Go Buckeyes...to the Weird Al show!
Our web site has been fully updated, as it's now time to start our next big campaign project...a documentary! And as always, we need your help!
We want our fellow fans on camera offering sincere, heartfelt pleas to the Rock Hall's nominating committee urging them to nominate and induct Weird Al. It could be just you taping yourself, you interviewing others, or whatever. We need footage!
Like with last year's petition drive, we will also need volunteers for concerts on Al's upcoming tour. We need volunteers to both tape fellow fans in the parking lot before the show and also people to do a little legwork in the week before the concert date. Exactly what you'll need in order to volunteer is detailed on this page, while Al's tour schedule is on our new documentary tour page.
And of course, as always, every single question or detail you could possibly think of is covered on our newly and fully updated FAQ page.
And if you have zero video equipment or skills, then we still need your help, as throughout the summer we will be especially urging non-video fans to continue sending in letters to the Rock Hall Foundation on Al's behalf. Such letters can be sent to:
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation
Attn: Joel Peresman
1290 Avenue of the Americas
New York, NY 10104
USA
The bottom line is that we will need everyone's help this summer on what will hopefully be a very fun, very ambitious, project, so contact us to volunteer today!
This is it! Our grand petition drive is now finally over, and the aforementioned petition is already on its way to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation in New York!
In the end, a grand total of 9,032 individuals signed the petition, over three times as many as the last time we did a petition back in 2004!
The Rock Hall Foundation is notorious for not responding to correspondence sent in from the public, but we will know when they receive it (thank you, USPS Priority Mail) and will pass along that little bit of info as soon as possible.
In the meantime, we sincerely thank all nine thousand-plus of you out there who signed the petition and helped circulate it and (most importantly) got it back to us. If you did all of this, give yourself a big pat on the back. You deserve it.
We will finally start sharing some information, ideas, and news on this summer's all new project, and we'll of course have some fun games and whatnot along the way, so keep checking back.
Thanks again to everyone who helped out! Cross your fingers!
Well, it looks like we have a round of congratulating to do today.
First, congrats to Al and the band, as the "White & Nerdy" single has recently gone Platinum! This is the first time an Al single has received a Platinum Record. As if that wasn't enough, the song has also received a second Gold Record for ringtone sales!
Also, congrats to the team at Doogtoons for winning in the "Best Animated Video" category in the online Yahoo! Video Awards for their animated interview segment "Al’s Childhood." They had also animated the popular "Trapped in the Drive-Thru" music video and are planning to release some more Al interviews throughout the year.
Finally, this is the LAST CALL...there is just one week left to get any and all petition signatures sent in to us. This is it! Pencils down! Get them into envelopes and send them in NOW! If they don't arrive to us by March 31, we cannot accept them and will not use them for any future project.
Send your signatures in to us now! If you don't know what to do, e-mail us as soon as possible!
