Who Can It Be Now
Make the Rock Hall Weird Update Blog
This is what's called "counterprogramming."
Tonight the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is honoring its 2009 class of inductees, and of course we wish to again congratulate those artists who clearly deserved it (Jeff Beck) without controversy (Run-DMC) and who got in with the utmost humility and grace (Wanda Jackson).
Tonight's ceremony is held in Cleveland for the first time in over a decade. Though we were not invited to attend or cover it, we share our fellow Clevelanders' naive hope that our economy will flourish in the shadow of the Rock Hall, which seems to be something we psyche ourselves into believing every ten years or so.
In the meantime, as our regular visitors have hopefully noticed, we have begun our 2009 campaign activity, the aforementioned Great Greeting Card Project. As the name suggests, we want folks to send cards to the Rock Hall Foundation conveying one simple message: INDUCT WEIRD AL!
We'll be bugging people about coming up with original card designs as we chug along into the spring and summer, but for right now we ask everyone to just send anything now...a birthday card, folded construction paper, something you stole off an FTD bouquet, anything! We want a flood of cards to start coming into the Rock Hall Foundation office as soon as possible. Even if you plan to come up with your own original card later on, just send something now!
As always, send your card to:
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation
Attn: Joel Peresman
1290 Avenue of the Americas
New York, NY 10104
And if you could please leave a comment somewhere on our MySpace page or our blog, just so we can get a rough headcount right out of the gate, we'd appreciate it.
We'll have some web site updates ready throughout the week, including a wish list of things we still need for our ongoing documentary project.
Send your greeting card now!
