NOTES & TRIVIA

The highest charting audio release of Al's career. This record would be tied in 2011 with the release of the album Alpocalypse.

Only Al's third top forty single, and only his second ever to go Gold.

Al's first single to go Platinum.

In addition to its sales certifications as a digital single, on June 15, 2007, the song would also receive a second Gold Record in the RIAA's Mastertone category for ringtone sales.

Al's first single to chart solely on the success of paid downloads through iTunes.

Considering the problems Al had with releasing his last big rap parody, "Couch Potato," news of this parody was ironically first announced by the artist it was targeting, Chamillionaire.

A music video was to premiere on AOL's music site on September 19 at midnight EST. However, since the video somehow leaked onto YouTube.com the weekend before, AOL decided to pull the premiere at the last minute, for some reason feeling that such an event wouldn't be as special since people were already able to see the video. Al had to quickly get a message out to fans just hours before the scheduled time. The video would later be featured on Al's MySpace page and then premiere on VH1 on September 20 just after 5AM EST.

The fourth Al single to have its own label-sponsored web site, this one at www.zombalabelgroup.com/whiteandnerdy/ecardlaunch.html (which has since been taken down). Meanwhile, both the MySpace page and the Foofie web site featured in the music video really did exist. The Foofie page was originally located at www.weirdal.com/foofie (it has since been removed from the site). The humorous MySpace page can be seen at www.myspace.com/whiteandnerdy. The domain www.whiteandnerdy.com was registered as pre-production of the video was underway. Originally it redirected to the MySpace page, but then it instead went to the e-card site, and now it goes to Al's Twitter page.

In mid-August 2006 Al held a casting call on his MySpace page asking for fans to be extras in the music video. The only stipulations were that a person must be a resident of Southern California and be between eighteen and twenty-four years old (and be able to work for free, of course).

Two versions of the music video exist, specifically the shots in which Al's editing Wikipedia and then posing next to a Gap store. One version has the Wikipedia and Gap logos clearly visible on screen, while another version removes the Wikipedia logo and uses an alternate shot of Al in front of the Gap store's window display.

The European edition of the promo CD single features both "White & Nerdy" and the album's first single, "Don't Download This Song."

A promotional 12" deejay single (see above for tracklist) was also released in a variety of ways, such as to hip-hop radio stations and to independent record stores to be used as a giveaway. Titled Selections From Straight Outta Lynwood and of course featuring "White & Nerdy" as the "lead" song, it is the first vinyl Weird Al release in the United States since 1989.
